Plant-Based Catering on Campus

Fighting the Climate Crisis with Sustainable Food Choices

The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and the food system plays a significant role in contributing to it. The Plant-Based Universities Campaign is a global initiative, a student-led campaign that is taking a stand against the unjust and unsustainable food system and demanding system change to respond to our current crises. The campaign aims to encourage universities to offer more plant-based options in their dining facilities and to promote sustainable food choices.

In the UK, the campaign is making waves with more than 40 universities calling for more plant-based options in their dining facilities.

The first university to say yes to a 100% plant-based catering was the University of Stirling last year.

This year, the University of Cambridge, Queen Mary of London, and Birmingham followed suit. Other universities like the University of Kent and Manchester are also considering joining them.

The transition to a plant-based food system can free up 76% of global farmland, the equivalent size of Australia, the United States, and China combined.

The benefits of plant-based eating are numerous, including reducing the carbon footprint, improving health, and reducing animal cruelty. Plant-based diets have a lower environmental impact than diets that include animal products, and transitioning to a plant-based diet is one of the most effective ways to reduce our individual carbon footprint.
